Universal K9 Seeks Corporate Sponsors to Support Shelter Dog Training Fundraiser

Universal K9 has announced a Go Fund Me campaign to train shelter dogs for police service and seeks corporate sponsors to help reach the campaign’s funding goal.

San Antonio, Texas, January 26, 2018 – Universal K9, a groundbreaking police dog training organization based in Texas, has today announced an initiative that will be supported through a Go Fund Me campaign. The campaign’s goals are simple – to adopt high-drive, high-energy dogs from shelters, train them, and place them with police and sheriff departments across the US.

According to Brad Croft, founder and professional trainer at Universal K9, “Most people assume that it’s only purebred dogs that make good K9 officers – German shepherds and the like. However, the truth is that all types of dogs have the potential to learn to detect and track drugs and guns, or to protect officers and citizens.”

Universal K9’s campaign goals are simple:

  • Rescue dogs that would not be adopted from the threat of euthanasia
  • Train those dogs to detect, track and protect
  • Home those dogs with law enforcement departments across the US
  • End breed-specific legislation (BSL)

Croft points out that while the program has idealistic goals, they are also based in financial common sense. A purebred European-trained police dog usually costs a department between $15,000 and $20,000. Universal K9 adopts shelter dogs, trains them, and places them with departments at no cost.

Universal K9 has seen significant success with their efforts. Currently, the company trains between 20 and 40 dogs per month, and there remains a lengthy waiting list of law enforcement departments. Since 2010, the organization has placed thousands of dogs with departments across the US, including pit bulls.

Today, Universal K9 seeks corporate sponsors to help the organization purchase new properties, renovate currently owned properties, and get more dogs out of shelters, trained and serving American communities.

Universal K-9, a specialist in K-9 training services, has today announced approval from the VA to accept GI Bill benefits to pay for the company’s Dual Purpose Handlers Course.

Universal K-9, one of the nation’s most respected companies specializing in K-9 training for police, bomb, drug and protection dogs, has today announced VA approval to accept GI Bill benefits. Universal K-9 will begin accepting GI Bill benefits for tuition for the company’s Dual Purpose Handlers Course. There are several GI Bill programs currently available for military members. These include the Montgomery GI Bill for active duty military members (MGIB-AD or Chapter 30), the Montgomery GI Bill for Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR or Chapter 1606), the Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP or Chapter 1607) and the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008 (the “new” GI Bill, or Chapter 33). MGIB-AD benefits are available for to veterans for a full decade after leaving active duty. MGIB-SR benefits are available to Reservists for the full duration of their enrollment in the Reserve. REAP benefits are available for 10 years after an honorable discharge from the Selected Reserve, and the Post-9/11 GI Bill offers eligibility for benefits for 15 years after leaving active duty. The Dual Purpose Handlers Course is a 2 week program that will also provide a free dual purpose dog to active law enforcement officers. After successfully completing the course, handlers will have the vital skills and education necessary to handle police dogs nationwide. Not content to help veterans reenter civilian life by teaching a trade and accepting GI Bill benefits, Universal K-9 is also providing free dual purpose dogs to all active law enforcement individuals who sign up for their 2 week dual purpose handlers course using their VA Education benefits. This is a certificate based program designed to provide entry level employment for veterans. Springerville Arizona Police Department “K9 Auggie” Alerts to Vehicle possessing 86.5lbs of Marijuana with street value of $271,000.00.

On the evening of 2/6/2016 Officer Jones conducted a traffic stop in the area of 456 S. Mountain Ave in Springerville.
